The selection of electronic soft tip dartboards features top-quality offerings from Granboard, Ruthless and Viper, whilst our collection of home darts centres includes starter dartboard sets that come with a board, surround or cabinet and sets of darts.
How do I choose the right dartboard?
There are two different types of dartboards to cater for the two versions of darts. Bristle dart boards are used for steel tip darts and electronic (soft tip) dart boards are used for soft tip darts.
Bristle dartboards are the more traditional dartboard, being used everywhere from casual games at home or the pub to in tournaments by the world’s best players on television. One of the main benefits of a steel tip dart board is that the Sisal material they are made from is highly durable. The quality of the material is the main reason for the difference in prices.
The top brands of steel tip dart boards includes Mission, Unicorn and Winmau, and come in various wiring designs. Our ‘Professional Dartboard’ collection features top-of-the-range boards constructed without staples. A staple-free board is the ideal choice for the more serious players as the scoring areas are increased and there is less chance of darts falling out.
Electronic dartboards are a safe, more family friendly option. Soft tip points are made of plastic, which makes this type of dartboard more suitable for younger players compared to the steel tip version that uses sharp steel points. Another benefit of a soft tip dartboard is that many include the option of being able to play different games against other players from around the world. Most soft tip boards will also come with a built-in scoreboard that will do all of the scoring for you.
How to tell if a dartboard is good quality
We have hundreds of dart boards for sale and prices vary depending on the brand, material (usually Sisal) and the durability of the board. The way to tell if a dartboard is good quality is to look at the materials used and the wire construction.
For traditional/steel tip dart boards, a more serious player will want a board that meets the competition standard criteria and is made from the highest-quality Sisal material, as this is a strong indicator that it will last for a long time. To choose the right dartboard, players can also look at the wiring of the board. This is an important factor for the pros, who opt for a staple-free construction and ultra-thin wiring to help reduce the risk of darts falling out during play.
For electronic/soft tip dart boards, the best options will offer players a wide range of features, including a built-in scoreboard with lots of different game modes that can be played with your friends or family. Being able to connect online and play against other players from around the world is another popular selling point for electronic dart boards.

Professional dartboards
The key differences between professional dart boards and recreational dart boards is the Sisal material and wire construction used to make the boards. A professional steel tip dart board is made from high-quality Sisal (usually African) and has a high fibre density and thickness on the base. Sisal is a plant that has self-healing characteristics, which means the natural fibres of the Sisal close back in once the darts have been retrieved from the board.
Professional boards have been sanded in multiple directions during their construction to provide players with an ultra-fine playing surface. These are important features as they allow the Sisal fibres to heal better during play, meaning a professional board offers extra longevity as well as minimising the number of bounce outs.
A professional level dartboard has very thin wires (as thin as a razor blade), that help to deflect darts into the nearest section and significantly reduce the chance of your darts hitting a wire and falling out of the board.
As a comparison, a round wire dartboard is more favourable for recreational use. The wires sit on top of the surface of the board and are generally quite thick, so if you hit a wire with your dart it is likely to bounce out. This type of board is great for fun games and the best dart board for beginners who are just getting into the game.
For more serious players, check out our range of training dartboards that have been designed with smaller doubles and trebles. These boards act as a dart training aid and can enhance your practice routines, as you will be throwing at narrower double and treble segments compared to what you would find on a traditional dartboard.
